"Dairy Sign #1" inspired by the hand-painted signs found outside New Zealand dairies, takeaways and neighbourhood shops, everyday advertising that becomes part of the visual landscape without us really noticing it.

Coffee, hot chips, ice cream, cheap prices and limited-time offers are reduced to rough, oversized lettering, recreating the urgency and imperfection of signs made simply to get your attention. 

The artwork screen printed by hand. Uneven edges, variations in ink coverage and small imperfections are deliberately retained, giving each print the character of the signs that inspired it.

Dairy Sign #1 is the first work in an ongoing exploration of New Zealand's everyday commercial signage — the temporary, handmade graphics hiding in plain sight.
